Empowering Teachers Everyday

I have more than forty years inside the American education system, first as a classroom teacher at all levels, then as a building principal, a district administrator, a dean of a college of education, and an international consultant for Professional Learning Communities.  I have sat in the back of hundreds of classrooms, walked the hallways of schools in wealthy suburbs and struggling urban centers, and helped train teachers at all levels.  What I have seen has convinced me of one thing above all others:  the people inside the system are not the problem.  The system itself is the problem.

My goal is to show you that the barriers you face are real, but they are not insurmountable.  I want to show you that meaningful change does not require abandoning public education or walking away from your students.  It requires a different way of thinking about what school is for, what learning looks like, and what your role can be.  I attempt to offer a different roadmap for those who are ready to take the first step.
